SO Spotlight:

Most Engaged Employee of 2021

At the beginning of 2021, the HR Engagement Team plotted all the events, activities, contests, and initiatives for the entire year.

These events include Health and Wellness, Game Days, Theme Days, CSR programs, client-specific activities, HR Roadshow, rewards and recognition, anniversaries, and birthdays.

All SO employees were encouraged to participate, and amazingly, one employee stood out to be the most consistent in attending our events and activities.

She is Antonella Viriña, this year's Satellite Office's Most Engaged Employee. Antonella attended more than 45 events and activities, and she also holds the record for the most wins in our game days activity.

According to Antonella,  engagement activities are usually just an hour and a half taken out of her week, which is spent on learning something new and doing something different apart from work.

"It is not stemming from a need to be productive. I like having something new to break the monotony. If I can spend hours on my phone, I can take even just a bit of that time to listen in to a webinar or exercise or enjoy a moment of human connection, albeit virtually."

She also added it's also really hard to stay connected to people because of the pandemic.

"Our vet team has always been remote and I am the only one based locally. I don’t get to see my friends in person either and in a way, all these events have made it a little easier to get to know other people, and in this case, the people of Satellite Office.

Pre-pandemic, I don’t think there would be as many opportunities to mingle, especially with those from different clients. Much of my workday is spent on actual work and transportation.

Because of all the engagement activities I’ve attended, I was able to connect with some familiar faces and learned a lot from all HR initiatives."

Aside from being a professional Veterinarian, Antonella loves to cook, dance, read, shop, and learn new things. No wonder why she won most of the Kahoot games because of her passion for knowledge.

If she wasn't a vet what would she be like?

"I’ve been told I should go into vlogging haha, but if I weren’t a vet, I would probably have gone into human medicine.

I always knew in myself I wanted to be a doctor, someway, somehow hahaha, but if I didn’t go that route, I would’ve maybe gone into communications like my parents.

A few people did say they enjoy my presentations for our reports haha! But if I had the money, I think I would enjoy making delicious food every day."

What's her biggest challenge in life and how she was able to conquer it?

"Most of 2019, my senior year in vet school.

I had to switch thesis topics several times over my entire stay but in the final month (mid-April to mid-May) of the school year, when I wasn’t even sure I would graduate.

I presented my final outline, conducted my experiment, and successfully defended my thesis, all while juggling clinical duties and presenting a case report for another major class.

I did go on to graduate in June, then we went straight into review classes for the 3-day licensure exam in August.

I passed the licensure exam, applied to several jobs, and in December, I successfully got into the third job I interviewed for, which is here at Satellite Office.

The third time’s the charm lol. I didn’t start until January of 2020, so I took my remaining free time to catch up on all the sleep I lost haha!"

When asked about how it feels to be a veterinarian working in the corporate world be like, she responded.

"Working in a corporate as a veterinarian is rather uncommon.

People often think it’s a waste that I didn’t go into clinical work or even farm work. Truth be told, I’ve never seen myself in either field. I wanted to go into research but opportunities for me are very limited.

But I am very happy where I am. I’ve always had a knack for writing and I enjoy talking about pet care with other people. With my current position, I get to do both things and in turn, promote a better quality of care for animals, which is maybe the main goal of every vet anyway haha!"

Undeniably, her passion for what she loves to do will go on and we expect her to still be the most engaged employee of Satellite Office.

Antonella has become an inspiration to our employees to challenge themselves in our game days, as the goal is to "Beat Antonella" for most Kahoot activities.

Satellite Office is so proud to have you, Antonella, with your passion and dedication it wouldn't be a surprise to see more employees will be on board with our engagement and initiatives next year.
